In the electronics manufacturing industry, maintaining high standards is non-negotiable. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, companies must adapt to meet stringent quality and reliability expectations. One way to ensure these standards are consistently met is by investing in IPC training and certification. More specifically by becoming a Certified IPC Trainer (CIT).
In this article, we’ll unpack what it means to be a CIT, how to become certified, and why it is not only a step forward in your career but also a way to add value to your company.
Understanding the Role of a Certified IPC Trainer
A Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) is a professional who is authorised to train and certify individuals as Certified IPC Specialists (CIS). To understand the levels of certification you can read our separate guide. Their primary role is to deliver training aligned with IPC standards, ensuring that companies maintain high-quality production practices. IPC standards are globally recognised, providing a benchmark for excellence in electronics manufacturing.
Becoming a CIT positions you as a valuable resource within your company. You become the go-to expert for interpreting and applying IPC standards. Whether it’s soldering techniques, assembly processes, or inspections, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining compliance and improving operational efficiency. As well as passing on the deep knowledge you have of the standards to others.
This certification is ideal for those in supervisory or technical roles who want to take on more responsibility. Or for anyone who loves to teach and pass on knowledge. By becoming a CIT, you’re not just learning standards; you’re also gaining the tools to teach others and train your team to CIS level.
The Benefits of Becoming a Certified IPC Trainer
Earning your CIT certification comes with numerous advantages. Here are some key benefits of becoming a certified IPC trainer:
Professional Growth
Certification boosts your credibility, making you a sought-after expert in your field.
Career Advancement
Many employers recognise CIT certification as a stepping stone to higher-level roles.
Increased Value to Your Company
As a CIT, you can train employees in-house, reducing reliance on external trainers. Making you a valuable asset.

How to Become a Certified IPC Trainer
The journey to becoming a Certified IPC Trainer starts with enrolling with a recognised IPC training centre, such as The Electronics Group. You do not need to already be certified to CIS level, however it can make the training easier if you are. The CIT training courses are designed to provide in-depth knowledge of specific IPC standards, such as IPC J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) or IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies). You can read about the difference between these 2 courses here.
The training courses combine theoretical instruction with hands-on practice. This dual approach ensures that delegates fully understand the standards and can apply them effectively. At the end of the course, delegates must pass two exams, one open book and one closed book. With the exception of the IPC A-600 being just one open book exam. Certification lasts for 2 years.
At The Electronics Group, we offer flexible CIT training courses, delivered by our team of expert Master IPC trainers. They will provide personalised guidance, helping you navigate the certification process with confidence.
